A reliable device that can 'live' with heart failure patients

Heart assist devices, or  "ventricular assist devices (VADs)" are implantable mechanical pumps  that support blood flow in patients with severe heart failure. Currently,  implantable VADs can sustain the heart function of a patient over years, essentially serving as a  bridge-to-cardiac transplantation (BTT), or for permanent use ("Destination therapy").

Only a reliable VAD can provide this benefit to patients, which could allow them to have a  higher quality of life.
